Cybert’s alias is a reference to Sweeney Todd, the lead character of the Broadway musical about a serial killer. My wife, Raina, performed the play while she was in high school, which is amazing considering the content (and all the blood!). I’ve only seen the Tim Burton film adaptation, which I thought was pretty good, but everyone in the know insists the stage versions are always better. I went through the teenage phase where I didn’t like musicals, and remember thinking animated films, especially, were so much cooler if the characters didn’t sing. Breaking into song is just so unrealistic, right? Not sure why realism is so important to people that age. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve really begun to appreciate the great Broadway musicals, and have a fondness for old Hollywood musicals as well. There’s just some emotional storytelling that can only be told through song and dance.
Cybert is still wrestling with his conflicted emotions, so it would be great for him to have a few musical numbers!
